Yes.

http://www.ohsaa.org/Portals/0/Offic...Switching.pptx

Would make more sense to me if they did a voice over on it, I think I can get the gist of it now but on the phone the animations do not work.

I looked at it this afternoon, and I agree that without a voice over or written notes it is nothing more that a bunch of pictures with no descriptions of what the pictures are supposed to mean.

Denny Morris, the OhioHSAA Director of Basketball Officials spoke at the spoke at the annual first LOA meeting of the year sponsored by the Sandusky Co., Wood Co., and Tiffin Bkb. Off. Assns. in Fremont tonight. And I assumed that he spoke about this PP, but Mark, Jr., and I did not go to the meeting this year because he has a mid-term in Calc. III tomorrow morning and I have not been cleared to drive yet since I had a stroke on Oct. 10th. I hope to talk with some people who attended the meeting over the weekend, but I do know that this PP came as a surprise to everybody.

So Ohio is using NCAA men's mechanics for switches and going opposite.

Issues with coaches, I guess?

I watched the state rules meeting tonight and it does explain it better in the rules meeting. Basically its the calling official always goes opposite.

NFHS mechanics moved away from this within the past 10 or 15 years, I believe.

So why would Ohio want to revert back to the old way? Just be different, as some think is their football philosophy?

Beats me, especially given the , you-will-use-the-book-mechanics-or-never-do-playoffs-again attitude they usually give us.

This?

My guess is the NFHS will return to going opposite when the next official's manual comes out to make things a bit easier/consistent for officials working both levels. I think Ohio just decided why not do it now?

Both levels?

What's the other level? D-League, tableside. WNBA, tableside. NCAA-Women's, tableside. (and yes, there are D-League and WNBA officials who still work HS ball).

There is only one level that goes opposite.

As BNR alluded to, going opposite is not the necessarily the norm at other levels

It is happening....it is weird.

We are all hoping NFHS is going to this otherwise...WHY?

In scrimmages it's been hit and miss. Im trying to not make a huge deal of it and just fill in if guys go to the wrong spot....or maybe Im going to the wrong spot and they are filing in....

Also trying to communicate on the court to my calling partners, "away" or "stay" if I can.

You can view the video with voice-over on ohsaabasketball.com. Should make things much clearer for you. For those who have officiated when we used to go opposite, the change back shouldn't be too difficult.

For me its breaking old habits, not lack of understanding the changes. I suspect that's how it is with most.
