Really. Instead of mentioning it, people should learn from that moment.

Learn that cuz they didn't call it in the National Championship game then I shouldn't call it in my 3rd grade girls CYO games?

Mission Accomplished!

I've been to camps where clinicians went on and on and on and on and on about how important the opening jump was. I've never bought into that.

"Sorry, coach, you'll get 2 of the next 3."

If it's *really* bad, then blow it back to save the R from having to do it himself.

What's there to learn. Yes it was a violation, and it's one that is often not called at many levels. Either because the officials aren't ready, it's not expected, or no one cares.

I have called back one jump in my life and it was mostly because the jumper got off way to early, but if both jumpers leave at the same time let's start the game.

I've called it once; HS JV game years ago. I was in the second game of a three-game stretch with the same team. I saw it but froze in the first game. I was ready for it in the second game and called it. They didn't do it in the third game, but there was a fight at the end.

Don't you wish they violated on the jump ball?

Edited to add: Adam beat me to this point...

There seems to be disagreement about what happened on the jump ball.

1) We have some people saying it should have been re-jumped.

2) We have others saying it is a violation.

It is a violation if the ball was touched by the player before the ball reached the highest point of the toss.

If only one player violates, I'm calling the violation and awarding the ball to the other team.

If it is just a bad toss, I'm probably just playing on unless it is egregiously bad.

Like I said, I didn't have replay so I'm not sure which happened, but if one of the players violated, we would not re-jump.
