1. I think I'll take the foul rather than the held ball. Was pulled away easily, not really a head ball, then the contact was an easy foul call.

2. RA block. Looks good to me. If he was outside the arc, you can't tell from the video. Going with the official in perfect position to see it.

3. Yes, it happened. What is their to breakdown. It is a missed shot.

I posted these for discussion purposes, nothing but a missed shot?

Well, OK, it is a violation on the FT shooter. You gave it a title that indicated the thing being looked at was the stuck ball. Why do that if the point of the video is something else? I didn't even bother looking at anything else.

I called this twice last night and it ended up leading to a T against the kid I called it on. He gave a big 2-handed wave-off when I explained it to him.

His coach wanted an explanation (both for the original call and why I called the T), I gave it.

Shortly after the first occurrence where I T'd him for it, I called a foul that sent him to the line again. Being in front of his team's bench. I suggested the coaches watch him. He did it again (missing the front end of 2). I looked back at the coaches and said "did you see it?" They all chucked and nodded. I called it again a little later and he looked looked to his coaches and they told him that he did go way over the line way too early, pretty much right after the release. It is nice when coaches listen to the explanation then confirm to their player that they are doing exactly what the referees indicated.

I also called two other violations for perimeter players rushing in on the release. I think this game doubled the number of FT violations I've called all season.

So nice he had to say it twice.

I agree with Chuck's analysis.

On #3 -- I don't think that the violation should be called on this play -- it was obviously the first of multiple FTs and A1 didn't get any shooting or rebounding advantage here. (I'm assuming the violation hasn't been an issue elsewhere in the game.)

Which meant twice the spelling errors, grammar errors, and typos. Some people shouldn't post after midnight and before 5 am. :D

Yep, I butchered that one. I should have just gone to bed and replied this morning.

The advantage Bluiett gained was he couldn't keep his foot legally behind the stripe until the ball contacted. Make them balance up and shoot the ball--it's not second graders who can't hoist it up there otherwise.

I've seen enough of these passed on in the last month to realize it's becoming philosophy. Baffles me--Seriously, what do you tell the opposing coach when he questions?

My best posts usually come right after I polish off a bottle of Riesling.

Sorry buddy that isn't the way the game is being called nowadays. This would not be called in the NBA or NCAA game and less and less in HS.

So when the opposing coach asks why you didn't call what everyone knows is a violation, your response is...?

I have never been told to pass on an obvious violation. And this is certainly not one I have ever been scolded for at the varsity, or college ranks.

Coaches make comments at those levels if their toe is on the line. To me this is like an out of bounds call. If it is obvious it should be called. I am not losing my credibility to make someone else happy.

My point exactly.

In this case, the shot was missed and it was the first of two, so it's irrelevant. But that's an obvious violation and everyone in the arena knows it. If that shot goes in or it's the second shot, the shooter commits that violation, and AremRed doesn't call it, what does he plan to tell the opposing coach when he's raising hell?
