Tonight's comedy
Ok, I'll get the bad part out of the way first. Boys JV, I'm transitioning from T to new L on break. A phantom floorboard decides it hates me and I go Joey Crawford style a$$ over teakettle. Not a good start to the night as it was in first quarter.
Varsity game was not good. Lots of fouls and I totally ate it on an easy ball slam T bc I'm a pansy. I'm not happy about it. H coach was a pill all night and not really happy about not being more direct with him. Overall just a crap night. But I do have a question and I hope someone will give me a rules cite please. V1 drives lane, gathers for floater, which is blocked by H5 after release . V1 catches ball before returning to floor. I had nothing bc to me it would be the same as a player getting his own missed shot before it touches floor. H coach was not happy, wanted a travel. I know I didn't have a good game and feel free to ridicule me for eating floor, but can someone point me in right direction for this call? I'm just not able to think of any way it would be a travel, the ball was released on shot. Thanks in advance |
Correct no call. Control ends when shot released.

Yup, just a rebound.
Had the same thing the other night. Partner came in later and said, "We should have had a held ball there." "Why?" "The player returned to the floor with the ball." Uhhh, that's only the second half of that potential held ball scenario. The "without it being released" part is the key that's missing. |
Even in the NBA that has this rule , it's not a travel because it was blocked...

The phrase you were looking for was "rebound a blocked shot", which is what V1 did.

Thanks BNR. And billy, I knew it couldn't have been my fault! Guys in my group are having a fun time with it already. I'm just glad I'm didn't break something or hurt myself.

Better Than Not Showing Up For A Game That I Did Have ...
Quote:
Our monthly board meeting was a few days later. Sure enough, our interpreter "complimented" me, in front of over three hundred members, for showing up really early for a game. It actually wasn't that bad because right after the announcement about me, the interpreter announced that another official showed up on the right night for his game, but with no equipment bag. He had taken the wrong car that morning. Officiating is a brotherhood, and like brothers, we really like to poke fun at each other. Note: Our guys are always very strongly encouraged to confirm games. Neither the athletic director, nor my partner, noticed that I put the right date, but the wrong day of the week, in my confirmation email. |

Almost every time I get to a school for a game something creeps into my head to make me think I'm at the wrong place, so I grab my phone quickly to double-check my schedule. |
