Yep, I think we're gonna get wet. Looks like the strongest winds will be east of the eye, and we'll get most of the rain. We'll try to slow it down before sending it north.

Thanks.

Of course, the folks here in D.C. can't seem to handle any weather, period, so I'm not so sure how we'll do this weekend . . . .

The worst part of this storm - the start of [flag] football season is getting pushed back two weeks! Similar to Juulie, I don't know if I can survive that long!

BktBallRef Thu Sep 18, 2003 09:13am

Well, she's here. Rainy, winds only about 20 mph but increasing. I'll probably only see 40-50 mph winds. But the coast is getting battered.

Looks like the NE corner of NC and VA are in for a long day.

Headed you way, Dexter!

BktBallRef Thu Sep 18, 2003 05:06pm

Well, lost power for almost an hour but she's headed to VA now. Can only get better from here. What's happening in DC, Mark?

Mark Dexter Thu Sep 18, 2003 05:50pm

Rain.

Wind.

Drunk kids on balconies.

The problem is, Hurricane Isabelle's cool air can't compete with the "hot" air in DC.

BktBallRef Thu Sep 18, 2003 07:17pm

dblref, are you still in No. Va.?

Except all of the hot air has left town for a long weekend!

I live in the MD/DC area and Isabel is here in full force. She is not welcome. Its almost like relatives always around when you are not wanted

I'm surprised. Does Mrs. Mick know about this?

Please note that I refrained from that bit of "humor". ;) Congrats, mick!

A third of a century! Wow!! :)

We've managed 20 but sometimes it feels like 33, at least that's what my wife says! :D

Trust me - it's better to have the hot air in D.C. We're used to it, but sometimes it can get dangerous in the small towns and state fairs of America.

You betcha! Enjoying a 4-day weekend. I am in Manassas, about 35 miles west of DC and my neighborhood suffered very little damage. I had 2 broken branches and a gazillion leaves and small pieces of branches in my yard. Lights flickered a few time, but did not lose power. From the 2nd house to the left of me, there was no power for a couple of blocks. Apparently they are on a different grid. My younger son lives another 10 miles west and he also had no problems. Lost cable (and my internet access) for about 4 hours today but everything is ok. I feel really sorry for those people that lost everything. I can't imagine how they must feel. Hope everyone here is ok.

Ah, yes - the beauty of living on the same power grid as the White House. :p

All systems go Captain

Given my lack of attentiveness on the board, it may have appeared we had an outage! Got lucky again in our neighborhood - no power lost, but got two days in the work free zone! Gotta love Club Fed. And kids are out of school again today because half the schools in the county have no power.

I was like dblref, coupla flickers, but the lights (and my Sunday Ticket) were energized. Paying 200 smackers for those NFL games, I better keep my power on Sundays, at least until January :)

Whoa...$200 per game! Man, I wouldn't pay $200 to see Madonna kiss Britney Spears...

Hawks Coach Mon Sep 22, 2003 03:33pm

It's for the season, not per game. But every game counts, and they don't refund me for weekends lost to hurricanes.

Hey, that's not bad...$25 per game.

Hawks Coach Mon Sep 22, 2003 03:48pm

Love every minute of it

With a 17 week season, it's actually less - about $12/week. I get to watch my Lions every week (was seeing them on Thanksgiving only since I lived in the DC area), though if Joey keeps throwing it away on the goal line I am going to be replacing the TV that has my shoe in it!

On top of that, late on Sunday I was flipping between SF-Cleveland, Rams-Seahawks, GB-Az, and of course, the Redskins (a game only a ref could love - 32 penalties were the highlight). The games tend to get really staggered, so I watched 6 exciting endings this weekend. Need new batteries for the remote, but who cares!

So it is a bit of a cash outlay, but you get a lot for your money. Plus the enhanced screen gives you the hot game updates so you know to switch if a game gets tight. Now back to our regularly scheduled refere discussion . . .
