Bc violation?

Doing a JV boys game, Team A shoots ball. Ball rebounds to 3pt area. Team A and Team B going for rebound. Team A bats ball into backcourt. Team A gains possession. Is this over and back? There was no possession by either team on initial shot.

Subsequent a try or a throw-in, a BC violation cannot occur until PC has first been established. When was the first time PC was established on your play.

Only if you deemed that A gained control of the ball before going backcourt.

PC was established in backcourt after ball was batted. We got it right. I only question the call because HC whom I have a lot of respect for said we were dead wrong.

From The List ...

During a throwin, even under a team’s own basket, if the throwin is deflected, tipped, or batted, by an offensive player in the frontcourt to an offensive player in the backcourt; or after a missed field goal attempt, or a missed foul shot attempt, if the ball is deflected, tipped, or batted, by an offensive player in the frontcourt to an offensive player in the backcourt; these are not a backcourt violations.

That HC was dead wrong and you now have less respect for him.

You can't have a BC when PC is first established, only AFTER.

This play is so rare I can understand coaches wanting it called. I've seen it, in my games, once every three years. I'm not really worrying about respect over this call.

He's probably had that call go against him, by an official that he respects.
