Showcase Tourneys

Seems like every time I watch a showcase tourney, on tv now is the Bass Pro from Springfield, MO, they do not administer the sleeve rule correctly.

Officials are wearing a Missouri patch so I am assuming they are federation officials. Are officials just unwilling to enforce these types of things with higher caliber teams?

They don't have to follow NFHS rules or mechanics

I worked such a tournament recently and the tournament directors basically get to dictate such things.

In the case of the one I worked where there were a few national teams sponsored by Nike (wearing Nike apparel), we were basically given the instruction to not enforce that rule. They also had us stay in the locker room until they came to get us at the beginning of the game....to allow a nice pregame dunk show if the teams wanted to do so.

When you're working sponsored events like that, the sponsors basically get to define the rules they want as far as things like that go.

This is my association and yes, these men are NFHS officials and several of them are college officials as well. They are the best of the best in our group. Tournament director has chosen to not enforce color restrictions but that is the only deviation allowed. Just bc it isn't enforced doesn't mean they are unwilling. One or two of them are the biggest sticklers I know.

And a little self promotion for our town: if you live close enough, I HIGHLY encourage you to travel to this tournament. Not a nicer facility around, teams always feature future college and NBA players and concessions are awesome.
