Missed BI on SMU play?

There is a play from the SMU game posted on ESPN under the following heading that people should view. I am of the opinion that the goal should have been canceled for offensive basket interference.
Someone else will have to embed the video clip.

Alley-oops? Brown's deep pass goes in

SMU's Sterling Brown tossed what looked like a pass from well beyond the arc, and Jordan Tolbert was there for the slam ... but he didn't need to be.

How many games off should the crew get?

In an NFHS game, I also have a T for grasping the ring. However, since the NCAA rule is different that isn't applicable to the actual game.

Possible BI. The ball was almost through the basket and net before contact with the rim. No T for hanging as there was an opponent below him.

Deciding if the ball had passed through the basket before the player grabbed the ring is a judgment call. The action happens quickly and is an understandable miss.

I don't believe that officials should be suspended for missing judgment calls. It certainly can and should impact their selection for future assignments and the quality of those contests. On the other hand, misapplying a rule is a sanctionable offense in my book. How big of a penalty depends upon how big of an impact it had on the game.
