H1 is dribbling up court and V1 slaps the ball away. The ball is 10 feet away from the nearest players with players from both teams chasing after the ball when a small child runs onto the court and the play is whistled dead. Do TC rules apply here and ball given back to H1, or use AP to determine who gets ball?

We used AP during game, but now rethinking that. Maybe I'm in my head about it too much. I'm sure this is covered in older rule books, but can't find the reference in this years.

Treated the same as an inadvertent whistle.

My question to the crew would be "why wouldn't TC concepts apply?"

Believe I touched on this last year after a similar situation occurred during a camp game. Instead of a child coming on the court, we had a deflection followed by a nasty incidental collision while the ball was bouncing away. It was in the corner and L blew it dead for safety reasons.

I insisted POI with team control in affect. And I was correct. Sad part was a veteran partner disagreed (I overcame that because I insisted) and then after the game, even the clinician said I should have used the AP arrow.

I did not go back to that camp this year. That was garbage.

You have so called veteran officials who have full varsity schedules, and work the post season that flat out don't know the rules. I see these same guys working the state finals. Many are grossly out of shape, can't get up and down the court, and have poor mechanics (We are told at the beginning of every year you won't work post season if you don't adhere to proper mechanics). I had one state certified clinician openly profess the "do as I say, not as I do" mantra. This is why I and many others are going the JUCO route. Why work hard to get a sectional or above when that same effort can be put into the next level.
