Post Game

I am curious how many of you leave the gym and do one of the following:

A - Go have a beverage with your crew

B - Drive home

C - Meet up with other officials at a watering hole

D - None of the above, feel free to elaborate

The game is only the prelude to A or C.

A, B, and C. Depends upon who I'm working with and what night of the week.

Same

grunewar Wed Dec 16, 2015 05:23am

Mostly B. (A 4:15 wake-up call for work necessitates it for me).

But, Friday's our Association sponsors a gathering at a local watering hole, so, if convenient to my game, C.

Junior and I usually have dinner and the "old man" buys, LOL!

P.S. Come to think of it every time I have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with either of my sons the "old man" buys, :p.

I think all of us do at least one.

Thanks for asking.

ODog Wed Dec 16, 2015 08:56am

B.

I'll exchange any necessary war stories with fellow officials on the phone during the ride.

Raymond Wed Dec 16, 2015 09:12am

I always do B. A or C may occasionally be a prelude.

scrounge Wed Dec 16, 2015 09:16am

Nearly always B, with C a couple times a season. Maybe. We don't really have set crews here, esp at subvarsity level, so A is pretty much reserved for Friday nights in football.

#olderthanilook Wed Dec 16, 2015 09:20am

I like to "D" (shower) before "B". "B" always comes after "D", and sometimes "A" and/or "C" come before "B".

BlueDevilRef Wed Dec 16, 2015 09:50am

We rarely have set crews in these parts. So, generally it's just B for me. Plus, if I'm don't early enough, I can get home to snuggle with my little one before she goes to sleep. And, I'm not much of a drinker at all anymore so the beverages don't interest me unless it's Coke zero

I wish I had a cool signature

Our Massachusetts friends

E - observe the post-game handshake

UNIgiantslayers Wed Dec 16, 2015 10:06am

We head for the doors most nights. Two or three times a season we'll stop for a couple of beers and apps at an Applebees (or similar fine cuisine establishment). I'd rather sit on my couch with my SO and drink a beer and eat pizza or take-out after a long week of teaching and reffing though. Maybe that will change after we've been married for a few years, but for now it works.

SWOhioOfficial Wed Dec 16, 2015 10:28am

Depends on...

Who I am working with?

What night of the week it is?

Where I am compared to home?

What time we get done?

What level I am working?
(still have a split schedule, 99% of the time I stay and watch the Varsity Crew)

JRutledge Wed Dec 16, 2015 10:30am

I have done all of these depending on the day, the site of the game or the level of the game. I am more likely to go out on a Friday or Saturday. On a weekday game I am more likely to go home.

Peace

I prefer to drink my adult alcoholic beverage immediately before I officiate a game. A couple of breath mints, and I'm good to go.

Altor Wed Dec 16, 2015 10:55pm

I'm sure BillyMac is joking, but please nobody do this.

Years ago, before things like association rosters and contest assignments were on the new-fangled Intarweb, we had a baseball umpire get suspended by the state AA for showing up drunk.

To make matter worse, nobody told the local association officers and he continued to show up to meetings and get assignments for a couple years before the AA found out. You don't want to be involved in that conversation.

There have been some coaches that could have driven me to drink. I like to tell people that when I have a game with a coach that I might have to get up close and personal I like to eat a onion (spiced with garlic) heavy burger about an 90 minutes before game time and not use mouthwash after eating, :D.

Often times I find myself in the locker room talking about officiating with my partner and/or the other officials in the room. Whether it be different weird plays we've had or philosophies or whatever, it's great to be able to talk about and talk through things that have happened with people who care about officiating.

RedAndWhiteRef Thu Dec 17, 2015 12:41am

If I drive myself, it's always B. I stop for food on the way home if the trip length calls for it. Occasionally I'll ride with my partner(s). If so, we usually have a beverage or two.

I have a D as well. If I have a JV game and it's close to home, I'll stay and watch the varsity crew for a little bit. I'm not likely to watch the entire game, but even just a quarter can be beneficial to watch.
