Advice to youngins(well everyone)

a friend's Div 2 college game. And I've seen this too many times and I try not to be guilty of it but I probably have. Ref the game the same throughout. Ok I know adjustments for physical play and there may be other things needed. But I hate seeing refs start calling BS fouls, anticipating the call when there ends up being no contact. Player knocks the ball from behind. No contact and there is a ref right there who calls it out of bounds but then another ref comes in and calls a foul. Then there are seemingly out of nowhere fouls that weren't being called in the first half. But now that the game is close and going into OT they start calling them. Please DON"T do that.

This sounds like fanboy talk.

Thanks for the advice.

It was somewhat. I didn't care who wins. It was a good game and I thought it got hurt by all the fouls called in the final minutes and into OT. But it was close throughout and high scoring. Coaches get on the refs a bit more. Nothing too bad, but in my opinion the fact that the game was close and the pressure was increasing caused two of the three refs to make calls that they weren't doing earlier in the game. It just caused a lot of annoyance by both teams, and hands up in the air with that "What, a foul on me? look But I don't blame them because there were some mystifying ones and my main point is that the game is called one way throughout but then all of a sudden it gets called a whole lot tighter. The score was 70-68 with 3 minutes to, neither team in bonus then two minutes later both teams are in double bonus. the officiating changed at the end.

Tight game late, where every point counts, means defenses are going to play a little tougher... which can lead to more fouls. I've seen more fouls happen late in close games many times. Quoting that as one of the reasons you think the refs were bad (or whatever) is a red flag to me.

Normally, teams get tired and start fouling at this point.

Don't forget it's entirely possible the teams want to foul at this point because they need to give fouls in the event they need to put the other team on the line late.

The egotistical players will always object, but from a coaching standpoint these fouls may not be that bad.

I'm NOT saying to create fouls as an official. But I do agree that as teams get tired and defenses get tight late in a close game, there is almost always an increase in illegal contact.
