ESPN's College Basketball Rules Special

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I thought I'd let people know for anyone who is interested.

Quote:
As part of our season-long integrated communication plan about the new playing rules and officiating points of emphasis, ESPNU produced a College Basketball Rules Special. We thought you might be interested in viewing the show. ESPNU has scheduled two dates to air the program prior to the start of the season. The dates and times are:

• Monday, November 9 – 5 to 5:30 p.m. ET
• Friday, November 13 – 6 to 6:30 p.m. ET – Opening Night

The program will include ESPN College Basketball analysts Dino Gaudio and Sean Farnham, NCAA National Coordinator of Officials J.D. Collins and Final Four officials Pat Adams and Jamie Luckie. The program will provide the opportunity for members of the group to discuss and break down some of the new rules in men’s college basketball.

We hope these programs will prove beneficial and interesting to you and college basketball fans as we enter the 2015-16 season.
For what it's worth (which is probably nothing), I was part of a Skype conversation with J.D. Collins as part of a pre-season clinic and I love his approach. Such a breath of fresh air after the last several seasons!!

Now that you mention it, I have Friday off as well, and it will be at 2 PM Local time, but I may have some games to referee starting at 3, so I still may miss it.

The best thing about this show is that Jay Bilas won't be on it.

Count me in.

I would take Bilas infinity times on every game if it meant Dick Vitale was no longer screaming on my tv

I wish I had a cool signature

We are going to have a lot of bad shooting.

Peace

I tried to record this today, but only got the story of the Missouri football players protest and university president stepping down.

Was anyone actually able to see the rules program?

yes. it ran a half hour later than scheduled. They talked about the arc, monitor reviews, armbar on dribbler and post player. also, player control foul is like nfhs. also discussed the shooter seeking out a defender who is in the air. showed some video clips. maybe there wil be some way to view it again on line or something. Id list more but got to help daughter with geometry:

jd collins, pat adams and jamie luckey were on show. gotta go.

Funny how the two of you pick two of the sportscasters that actually do know the rules better than most. They're not perfect and may have other annoying qualities, but they're actually pretty intelligent about the game.

I have never watched a single Dick Vitale-called game on TV that would convince me that he has a "good" knowledge of the rules, or officiating philosophies in general.

Bilas does have some knowledge, but his interpretations are often erroneous, and he makes ridiculous statements that mislead viewers (e.g. "75% of block/charge plays are blocks").

Fran Fraschilla is ESPN's best commentator, IMO, in terms of knowing the rules.

Hmm. Is that actually wrong? Sounds about the right ratio to me from non-methodical, non-referee observation over the years. (Though I suppose what counts as a "block/charge" play as opposed to "just" a block could skew that number either way.) Whether it is relevant or useful is another question . . .

*perhaps because these are the most glaring offenders of promulgating misconceptions on the rules. Albeit there are other suc offenders who are not as widely shown on tv, these two get the brunt of the criticism because they hold well-paid prime spots in the national broadcasts--the big games. The "Sword of Damocles" therefore hangs over them.
