Gear bag

Here is a topic I have not seen covered. I currently use a 28 inch suitcase for basketball. Soft side with rollers and telescope handle. For fast pitch, I have the 36 inch Diamond rolling bag with a garment area on top and gear area underneath. I would like to upgrade for basketball. What does everyone else use?

This is mostly personal and what works for you, but you probably do not need more than 24 inch size bag. But there are people that put a lot in their bag and you might need something larger. But 36 inch bag is probably a little much for basketball as you do not have to put an actual basketball in the bag. ;)

Most of all this is what you are comfortable with. Do you want rollers or spinners on the bottom of the bag. It is mostly about what you are comfortable with and how you want to look.

Peace

Oh yeah, I know I don't want the huge bag for bball. Just think the suitcase looks a little cheap. I may not be a top dog yet or anywhere near it but I want to at least try to look the part

Look is ultimately up to you. I am just saying a bag as big as the ones you have are usually much bigger than you need. I have a bag for baseball that was much bigger than anything I had, but we often did not have a locker room and it included by protective gear. At most in basketball, I only have two uniforms. The only thing I sometimes might carry are a couple of pair of shoes. Most officials do not need a bag as big as 36 inches. But do not let me tell you what works. I just think a 24 inch bag is usually big enough for what we use. I have even seen guys with a 28 inch bag which is more than enough. Mostly I would go to places like Wal-Mart or Target and just look at the sizes and look inside to judge what size works for you. And if you find a bag that works, buy one or at least you have a reference point when you order one online or go to buy and expensive one for sure.

Peace

Is that because your suitcase is cheap or you don't like the suitcase look? Pretty much every high level ref I know uses a suitcase.

I've downsized to a 21" bag. All black, bought at Costco.

I have one of the 21" models here:

The eBags Brand - Top-Rated Bags Carry On Luggage and Suitcases - eBags.com

I also used to use a duffel bag similar to this (lighter overall than the luggage, didn't have to drag / roll it through the snow, if you park a long way away, then rolling can be easier than carrying):

I really like this one, because it gives you the option to leave your pants on a hangar and then fold them.

It is gray and just seems a little bit of a knock off/amateur to me. I would really like a smaller version of the diamond, about a 24, with upper and lower compartments. For bball, I carry two uniforms, shoes, a towel, a jacket, and accessories. Bag for fast pitch is so much bigger bc of what is mentioned, no locker rooms and protective gear. Plus it is outdoors so have to carry multiple layers for Missouri softball. I would really like to find one where shoes were not in same compartment as clothes, just haven't been able to locate the right one yet.

The eBags brand bags have two compartments. I think the TLS is the model. There are sizes from about 21"-29". I use a 29" for baseball and it works great.

I just use a black 21" carry-on rolling suitcase from WalMart for basketball. I have a nicer Samsonite with four wheels that I use for traveling. The WalMart suitcase was cheap and will carry everything I need.

If I can find it at a decent price, I'm going with one of these. It will directly conflict with my current license plate.

A 28" suitcase??? I could take 5 uniforms in that. Are you sure it is a 28"? I use a 21" or 22"...airline carry-on size. Most people i know use that size as well. Plenty big enough to fit an entire uniform with some extras.

BlueDevilRef Mon Nov 09, 2015 01:15pm

Yep. Full size suitcase. It's not jam packed, plenty of extra room. I tried the smaller size and it was too cramped. Size 13 shoes take up a lot of space!!

I bought the smaller Force3 bag for football and it works well. It should be a great basketball bag -- upper and lower compartments. Put shoes and dirty clothes down there or use the upper compartment as a briefcase and put clothes below. Whatever you want.
