And whether someone "in power" in your local area cares one way or the other.

Personally, it doesn't make my top-100 list.

There are powers that be who dictate that certain shoes can't be worn for reasons other than not being all black?

I don't know about "can't be worn" but "strongly prefer", yes.

I agree with Bob. While some don't say you must wear patent, at least one of my coordinators says "all black shoes either patent or polished to a high shine".

I have both, but I like the matte version the best. I used to be into the patient leather when they made them for the Converse All-Stars, but that was a phase and I got over them. I like putting on a little shine when I can.
