Angry

On certain sites (this is one of them, eteamz is another) I am having problems with pop up ads. Almost all of these ads are for software that will prevent popups. They refer to sites like http://www.fightpopups.com and http://www.bustpopups.com, etc. There are at least four different sites that one is referred to and they all sell software for about $25 that will stop popups.

I almost never get a popup ad anymore except these obnoxious ads telling me that they can stop popups and I get most of these ads on the message boards like this. I would feel like a vicim of the Mafia paying protection money if I were to succomb and buy this software since I am only need protecting from the purveyors of this software.

Is there something about message boards that allows this internet spam to pop up onto your computer? Is there a way to stop it without paying protection money?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I get no pop-ups on this site and I don't use a pop-up blocking program. It sounds to me like you have some adware on your computer that's causing your problem.

Try both of these free utilities to rid yourself of adware, malware, spyware, and the like:

Pop-Up Stopper by Panicware has a free edition here:

Pop-Up Stoppers

If you use Internet Explorer (or I assume any other similar browser) you can download (for free) the Google toolbar from google.com Included is the option to stop pop-ups, I haven't received one since using it.

If you use AOL, they have recently come out with AOL 9.0 and have a pop-up blocker feature built in (you may need to turn it on).

Both options are free, and I haven't seen an annoying pop-up in a long while.

Bob, I am probably the most un-savvy computer person on this board. I get my kids to help do a lot! BUT...somehow I downloaded (if that term is correct) Comet Cursor, I found it somehow while visiting a softball team site. I got it cause now I have a neat little umpire mask as my cursor. Anyway, it came with an ad zapper in the toolbar, and I have not had one singal pop-up since adding it about three months ago. Just thought I would share that with you.

No pop-ups

I don't receive any pop-ups when logged into this site... so I'm thinking that your pop-ups have nothing to do with this particular site... maybe I'm just lucky.

No, that's what I was trying to tell him. He obviously has some adware that's causing pop-ups, because it ain't this site.
