batter interfering with pickoff attempt

Can a batter be called for interference if he hinders the catcher from throwing out a runner, if the runner is trying to return to his base? If so, who is out?

Yes. The batter would be out. It is no different from interfering with a catcher trying to retire a runner attempting a steal.

BUT it's only interference if the batter leaves the box or makes an abnormal move. If he freezes in place in the box it's not interference.

Agreed. Thanks for clarifying.
