Benches Clear in Oregon

Video: Jesuit and Central Catholic coaches react to collisions, game cancellation - OregonLive.com

"There wasn’t a fight going on, so we had no business coming out of the dugout – nor did they."

Is he really meaning to imply that if there was a fight, there would have been a reason to come out?

Sometimes S**T happens in your games and you only choice is to gather numbers and penalize accordingly.

I could not tell from the video if the originaal collision contained any malicious contact. Then the "Egghead" came in from third an all hell broke loose.

As per the rules , many players reacted and were ejected accordingly. Good job by the officials and hopefully some learned their lesson, the "Hard Way".

It actually appeared to me that the catcher turned into the runner and tried to take him out with a with a body block, but ended up bearing the brunt end of the collision. That runner slid into home right after the collision. I agree that the real instigator of the melee was the second "Egghead" runner who went after the third baseman. He had no business running when he could see in front of him that the PU had his arms up.

I'm thinking the "we" refers to the coaching staff, since he mentioned restraining players.

I think #12 was actually trying to score, not add to the melee. After all, the ball is nowhere near home. His actions look more like a baserunner than a pissed off aggressor - at least until 19 steps in his way.

Way to take that out of context. The coach implied that despite it being against the rules and the player would be ejected anyway, he would live with such an ejection if the player was trying to be a peacemaker.

Even though I would have to eject the player for coming out of the dugout, I understand his statement, and agree with it. Any other level of ball if a player is a peacemaker it is a good thing, some may be closer and able to get there quicker than a coach anyway. That is not to say I disagree with the rule.

And a perfect example of a coach that doesn't get it.

There was no context, hence the question. Chill.

Follow-up: Plenty of suspensions for both teams, who had to call up JV players for their next games. Lesson learned, hopefully.
