Question for NY high school umpires.

I just read in the Huffington Post that a pitcher for a high school on Long Island threw a perfect game on Tuesday of last week and he did it by striking out all 21 batters he faced. The final score was reported as 15-0; it did not say if the winning team was the Home or Visitor. Does New York have a mercy rule in H.S. baseball? Thanks.

For varsity and JV: no mercy rule, no courtesy runners, no time limit. JH has a mercy rule and a two-hour time limit.

BTW: It was the first varsity start for the pitcher who threw that gem.

I can only imagine the quality of the other team's batters.

From what I heard, this was their third game, and they were no-hit the first two.

It was their 4th game and they scored four runs in their 2nd game so I doubt it. Nevertheless, the school has a very weak baseball program. There are a few like that around here. In one district, the umpires chipped in to buy the team a couple of bats so they wouldn't have to borrow them from the other team. The kids wear sneakers because that's all they have. In other districts, each kid has his own bag with 3 $300 bats in it.
