Verbal Obstruction?

I have had a defensive coach yell "Walk" as the pitcher goes to his stretch.

So a defensive coach yells Walk to his pitcher. What's the point here?

It's somewhat common at youth levels (or was when I did those levels). Doesn't often work there, either.

To get the batter to relax perhaps? Otherwise, I have no clue.

And even if that was the case, nobody's going to convince me that the offense was hindered by this comment from the defensive coach.

You got me, it was the offensive third base coach
