Midwest Final.
Plate ump wore red. The other 5 umps wore Navy. Why was that? Plate ump's Navy shirt didn't fit over his protector? mick |
I wondered about the same thing. I noticed he had a number on his shirt as well (I think it was 6). Made me wonder if all of the umpires at the regional were numbered, but I don't recall seeing numbers on anyone else. The umpires for the Southwestern final all wore the same color. I personally like that look better, although I do like the red shirts........... |
The plate umpire can choose his own color (red is OK) and LL doesn't prohibit numbers. Rob has #46 on all his shirts. He wore his own shirt behind the plate.
I'm sure the provided shirt fit. TV actually added a few pounds to Rob -- he's not that big of a guy. I like the plate umpire in a different color than the rest of the crew, but that's just me. Rich |

Lemee guess that the LLWS shirts that were provided are Navy, and those were the shirts that the other 5 umps were wearing. |
Keep in mind that we are still on the road to the Little League World Series and still in Regional competition. Each region does it differently. Once the World Series begins, the umpires will all be wearing uniforms entirely provided by Williamsport.

East Region provided one shirt and told you to bring one of your own for plates. If his region only provided one shirt and he wears a different size plate shirt then he would wear his own, numbers and all.
Red is an acceptable color and the plate man always has the option of going his own color. Only field umpires must match. Bob |
