Useless piece of equipment.

What is a useless piece of equipment?

The Umpire Cam. About as useful as the strike box on TV.

They put a man on the moon decades ago, but the K Zone on TV in inaccurate......................two words................DON'T WATCH.

This is something to make these "numb-nuts" who don't know a thing about umpiring feel good about themselves!

For someone like me who has never umped a game and probably never will, I really liked the perspective. I'd like to see more of this, including plays at different bases and home plate.

I didn't find the perspective very realistic -- the lens distorted the image.

Just go on utube or visit MLB. There are thousands of shots to review.

They all prove the same things.

1. Officials are expected to be perfect from day one and get better from there.
2. There is no such thing as a perfect official.
3. Opinions about their calls are like A**Ho***. Everyone has one.

And most of them stink.

Agree. The bubble view of the field is distracting, and the pitcher seemed like he was 100 feet away.

Thousands of shots from a camera mounted on the HP umpire? I'm saying that, disregarding the bubble view, this gives me a decent perspective of what umpires see.

Well, it may be decent for those who have never strapped on the gear and called balls and strikes. But it is definitely not how it really looks from back there for those of us who have seen a few pitches.

Given today's technology, there's definitely equipment out there that can give you a much more realistic view than this one.

The camera angle was not the best. But it does show how fast that ball comes in there, but the camera distorts the look that you would actually get.

If the film maker had a look at this website, they'd probably feel the same way umpires feel when fans talk about them. Start at perfect and get better.

What type of camera is this? I'd be interested to see how it is mounted.

Maybe, but not the issue. The camera angle really distorts what the umpire is looking at. Actually the camera would be better if they used the camera type that the WNBA used a couple of months ago when an official was calling the game. The camera was over the official's eye and gave a first person view and showed what the official was actually looking at. This is mounted somewhere on the hat and looks nothing like the view we would be seeing while umpiring.

It's most likely a GoPro camera. It is a small HD camera that was designed for mounting in extreme areas. They come with mounting hardware that can go almost anywhere
