Bad spot?
|
At least he had the obstruction.

Seems to be the wrong link.
But if it's the play where Davidson got hit by the throw -- MLB allows deep C or deep B in this situation (and which is chosen might depend on the handedness of the batter) |

If these guys aren't agile enough to get out of the way, maybe it's time to turn it over to some younger blood. Disgraceful.

Very strange that he would have his back to the ball! Maybe he got faked out by something??
|
He's standing (barely) on the grass when hit. Was he REALLY in the line between the throw and 2nd base? I don't think so.
|
Terrible throw, & it wouldn't have mattered if Bob had been another step onto the grass. Defense was lucky it hit him, or at least one run would have scored.
|
It seems like one run did score based on the commentary.

Who were those guys?
The commenters also stated that if the umpire were hit with a thrown ball in the outfield, then it is a dead ball. They then corrected it, but I think they left it that if a batted ball hits the umpire in the outfield, it is a dead ball.

Lousy throw. Davidson wasn't in the way of anything except E5--which happened anyway. Note how he stayed with the play and called the obstruction between 2nd and 3rd. When something weird like that happens it's easy to lose concentration, and he didn't. Nice job.
