A lot of you offered help when I was writing an article for High School Today.

Well this thread sure got hijacked.

Ironically, my HS football crew (without me, I had another game) showed up at a school this morning to work a JV game. The coaches had canceled the game without notifying the athletic director OR the contest officials. The 4 officials scheduled will get paid (and were apologized to) and I'm guessing the coaches will get an earful from the AD on Monday.

Had that happen in HS volleyball couple of years ago - not only did we get the match fee, BUT....I, at least, got the resched! :D

Happened to me on a baseball game years ago. I drove 35 miles one way for the game, got there, no teams, bus, etc after arriving at 9am for 10am game.

Waited for a bit, checked with the guy mowing the field apparently they moved the game to 2pm and never told me or my assignor. Assignor calls the AD and the AD calls me and says wait there, he lives around the corner.

I couldn't work the game as I was working 2nd shift at the time.

AD apologizes says the Arbiter had no umpires on it so he didn't call anyone. He hands fills out the payment form, puts down 70 miles, 1.5x game fee and says he'll cut me a check.
