Quiz time: batter picks up pitched ball

FED rules. Pitch in the dirt bounces off of F2's chest protector and ends up coming to a stop about 6 inches in front of the plate. Batter picks up the ball and throws it back to F1.

What's the call with a) No runners on base, b) R1 not attempting to steal on the pitch, or c) R1 attempting to steal on the pitch?

First of all it doesn't matter whether the ball is in fair or foul territory.

Now to your various scenarios:
a) nothing
b) nothing
c) HTBT but assuming the catcher was attempting to play the deflection: "batters out runner returns to 1st".

My question would be what did the defensive coach say when it happened?

I agree. Especially with nobody on.

What does HTBT mean?
