BBCOR Bats

My first 2 HS games with BBCOR. One extra base hit (double). Maybe it was the teams, but the ball doesn't seem to jump off of them.

Last week I had a 15-14 game and a 1-0 game on consecutive days. I have not seen a HR yet, but other than that I see little difference. Good hitters still hit well, and good pitchers still pitch well.

Early in the season. Give it time.

In 16 games I have seen 4 HR without the wind and one with the wind. I haven't seen any towering HRs like last year.

I believe it is still early in the season and the hitters aren't quite ready yet. Honestly I don't expect to see any significant changes in hitters or hitting because of the bats.

We're a year ahead of you here in California with the BBCOR rule. And it most definitely made a difference in the power the bats generate. HRs were down, as were the runs and ERAs.

You will. The hitters HATE BBCOR bats (except the Marucci 33 hahaha).

The NCAA went to BBCOR last year. The results were significant; Batting averages, home runs per game and earned-run averages are the lowest they have been in more than 30 years.

How have Aluminum Bats Changed Baseball?

I know this is an official's forum, but speaking as a coach this is a good thing (i.e., to get the metal bats closer/equivalent to wood). Maybe we can get back to teaching kids how to swing properly.

Don't get me wrong, I love HRs (especially when my kids are the ones hitting them!). It's just that as a parent/coach I get tired of hearing the same bad advice given because it worked with juiced/composite bats.

Baseball is a game of defense. The new bats restore balance to the game. JMHO.

Amen. I've never enjoyed baseball as played by swinging from the heels.

RPatrino Tue Mar 13, 2012 03:11pm

Perhaps we will see more strategy, hit and run, bunting, rather than Earl Weaver style managing? I love a well played defensive struggle, pitching and defense rules!!

Not as much as I love outs.

+100 I'd much rather see a switch to wood but this is a great improvement to the "metal mania" of the past years.

No home runs in six college games so far. Several balls caught on the warning track.
