What is the rule in Fed on the ball being in fair territory in the batters box? Is all balls foul in the box is is it to be judged either to be fair or foul depending on where the ball lies in comparision to the foul lines?

Look at the Definition of a "Foul," in 2-16-1.

It is not a foul ball unless the ball "settles on foul territory between first base or between home and third base."

So basically if the ball is in fair terrtory (use the foul line as a guide) then the ball is fair or foul based on the location of the ball. The batter's box has nothing to do with fair/foul, in itself.

This is the way I made the call in question, but someone on another forum said that FED rules anything in the batters box a foul. I have never heard of that and OBR and every other rule book I have ever read is very clear on the issue. I don't do high school games yet and have not studied the difference in the FED rules. Thanks alot, at least I know now that I didn't blow the call and I was right when I ejected that coach. Thanks again.

Are you perhaps confusing this issue with a batter being hit by his own batted ball while in the fair territory area of the batter's box?

If so, THAT action is considered a foul ball under all sets of rules.
