Does anyone know what website you can find "The 30 Ways to Balk" information?
Thanks!

Instead, just check the rulebook. You won't find 30, but you'll find the real ones.

These appeared in "The Umpires Answer Book" By Carl Childress. See if you can get a copy because there is a lot of good info in it besides balks.

I listed them previously but my scanner is down and I don't feel like henpecking that much tonight.

Rule 8.05 (a) through (m) lists 13 balks.

Rule 8.01 mentions one or two. There's the infamous "catcher's balk"......

Wow. If Carl came up with 30 he must be using the old composers technique of variations on a theme.

Thanks to jicecone.
Look for his post in April 2001. It has the "30 ways to Balk" listed in his post.
Thanks again!

#4 on the list. "Attempt a pick-off move from the windup position". I believe a pitcher may attempt a pick-off move from the windup position if he steps directly to a base and makes a throw under NFHS rules. This is illegal under OBR. Please correct me if I an in error.

Consider yourself corrected. FED prohibits pick-off moves from the windup position.

REFEREE Magazine has a publication available for purchase. "30 Ways to Make a Balk".

I should warn you . . . all the same info is readily available in Rule Books. Some of the "30 Ways" include, 1) Throwing to 3rd base without first stepping; 2) Feinting to 3rd base without first stepping; 3)Throwing to 2nd Base without first stepping; 4) Feinting to 2nd Base without first stepping. You get the picture.

My bad. Reversed the FED and OBR rules. In OBR a pitcher may step to base in an attempt to pick off a runner from the windup position. Would be much simplier with one set of rules.
