Shining the titanium mask

Its the off season, but I'm trying to figure out how to shine my nike titanium mask like the pros.

Anyone have any sucess in shining up your mask? I'm told Jim Wolf uses a very fine sandpaper to make his shine.....who knows if thats the truth.

A lot of titanium bicycle makers recomment using Lemon Pledge on their frames.

I don't know why, aside from trying to look like MLB guys, you'd want a shiney, reflective frame. I've dulled the finish on a couple of my frames, because the shine was distracting.

Okay, in over 30 years of officiating, I have always worn a black mask. Why in the world would you want to have a shiny mask?

Could this be the final bidder on the infamous ebay Nike Titanium mask?

Tim.

Why, to blind the pitcher, of course. Sheesh Ozzy, you should know that!

I think you may be on to something!

Or we could be all biting the hook right now, as it was baited and cast in our direction.

I hesitate to ask, but what does that mean?

21umpire Wed Oct 12, 2011 02:43pm

No, I didn't get it from Ebay, although I do follow those auctions to see how high it gets.

I'm not the type of umpire that likes to bring attention to myself, but I do have to admit that shining my mask up would create just that.

If I can look and act like a pro, then half the battle is won. Equipment and uniform are no exceptions.

I guess no one has tried shining even their Wilson titanium?

Bob,

I believe Tim is referring to this recently concluded eBay auction: NIKE TITANIUM CATCHERS MASK | eBay

The seller advertised it as a Nike Titanium when it was a Wilson frame with some beat-up Nike pads on it. Some sucker appears to have paid $355 for it.

I was thinking more along the lines of

"This ties for the dumbest post on the internet."

Why would I, cause some guy on TV did?

No, but I've heard that gold glitter-paint is the hot ticket now.

Welpe Thu Oct 13, 2011 08:30am

In a similar vein, how does everybody shine their ShockDoctor stainless steel cup? These are the questions that demand answers!

Great (or dirty) minds MUST think alike, because it was the very first thing I thought when I first read the thread title! :D

Rita C Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:30am

All these rude responses about shining or not shining the mask on a forum where I've seen discussions on how to best keep a shine on your plate shoes? Or how to keep a crease in your pants?

Or whether or not patent leather belts are the way to go?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Rita

kylejt Fri Oct 14, 2011 12:28pm

I think we should draw the line at the patent leather mask.

(on that one, I've just ejected myself from the thread)

Shining shoes is a good thing. Creasing your pants...good thing. Belt choices: Valid discussion. Shining the mask, not so much.

Following Kyle's lead here...adios.

You forgot about the thread that talked about men shining their cups!

Damn, I just ejected myself!
