One of My Favorites

Adult summer league. Pretty good ball. Zero outs. R1 + R2. B1 grounds to F6. I am BU. For some reason R2 stops running about 10 feet off 2B. F6 freezes, starts to run at R2, then meekly flips to F4 at 2B. Too late to get R1. F4 wheels and deals to F3--no dice. R2 makes it to 3B. Sacks juiced, no outs.

BTW, R2 did nothing to interfere; F6 had a clear toss to 2B.

OC comes after me, not in nasty fashion, and says, "Ace! That's interjection--obfuscation--confusement!" He then lets fly a few more non-words. I am trying not to laugh. I calmed him, trying to explain that no rule was broken.

He harrumphed and grunted and finally made his way back to dugout, with one parting shot: "But that's gotta be somethin'!"

"Yeah, coach, it's a bad play by your defense."
(from the Things-you-can-never-tell-a-coach department).

In an 11U game on Monday evening, I had a kid (from England, had never played baseball before) come up to bat and ask me in that wonderful British accent: "Sir, are we allowed to steal first base in this game?"

I hope you said yes! I'd love to see how that's done! :)

Probably my most favorite comment by a coach..........they don't know what.....

BTW Ace......we miss you.......you need to post more. I don't come to the BB board often, but when I saw your name.......it drew me here.

While I am far younger than the song itself, I have quoted it in the face of a coach making the same claim..."You can't get nothing from nothing."
