CWS play at the plate
Gene McArtor just sent out a note about a play at the dish during the CWS. Tom Hiler and his crew give us several angles and zoom in for the critical moment to make this one a good tool for teaching. At first glance, I thought the PU was going to be guilty of the same thing we are seeing in the pros lately, i.e. being so close to the play that the angle is reduced and safety jeopardized. It turns out he couldn't have done it better.
It's nice to see a play like this when so many are still upset about the Supers. There is no viable link. You need to be a registered NCAA umpire and go to the video section on Arbiter. It is the first video. Check it out. I think Comcast is replaying all CWS games on their ESPN U channel. |
I'll look from home, work comp won't open silver whatever, but if that is TK's play, he is the man. Smooth as silk.

Can you let us know the game, inning, etc.?
ESPN3 is showing all the games, so a replay should be available there. |
The game was between South Carolina and Texas A&M - first inning. Player sliding was #18 on A&M. Terrific positioning, readjustment and call by the PU.

Please post a link to the video if possible. I would love to see this play.

You must be a registered NCAA umpire to see this video. I don't know if the play is on YouTube or not for those who cannot view this link. |

Can you give a thumbnail version of what happened?

Just watched it on the NCAA site.....great video, great slo-mo and isolation. Some flat out great umpiring there.

Agreed.
I hope in next year's pre-season meetings they show and discuss the other calls we've been discussing (w/o throwing the umpires involved under the bus). |
