Okay:
  1. You are on a baseball umpire's forum - not a baseball fan's forum.
  2. There are 2 strikes on the batter and he is hit in the hand while swinging at the pitch - he does not get to go to 1st.
  3. The home plate umpire ruled that that batter did swing, so having 2 strikes already, the batter is out.
  4. This is a very rare play to happen at the end of the game.
Did that clear up things?

I too, am not a baseball umpire. I was under the impression, given to me a long time ago by a very good umpire of both baseball and softball that we could all learn from each other. I guess I, or he, was mistaken in this. I will try to just go out and make the same mistakes everyone else does to learn on my own.

Hmm,

I thought Rita's post was obvious to an UMPIRE. Maybe it was not so obvious to a non-umpire.

I thought the shot back by our non-umpire was silly. This site is not a site to educate fandom.

What digs? I broke it down for you and you have a problem with that? It just goes to show that fans are dumber than coaches.

Begone!

Probably you. In post #3 you said you're "not a baseball guy." What other kind of umpire is there (excluding the football kind)?

I'm not a fan.

I thought WOW meant, gee, I never seen a game end like that either, but darn good call.

If my interp is wrong, then my post would then be:

I never seen a game end like that either, but darn good call.

The tennis kind, the track and field kind, the field hockey kind, and in the Far East...the sumo kind. :D

Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow are first rate announcers. They know baseball and they're not overtly "fanboys" - they tell the listener what is going on and why.

Some of the local announcers in other markets wouldn't know the Official Baseball Rules if it hit them upside the head.

You could be more upfront and tell us you're a softball umpire. (That's an assumption based on the majority of your posts.)

I would have thought this rule was the same in (most) softball codes.

(ALL)... Yes, it is.

Well,

I cannot think of one thing a baseball umpire can learn from a softball umpire.

Here's my take on all this. Two "officials" come in here not identifying themselves so we end up assuming that they are coaches or fans (past experience with posts like these two usually depict either fan or coach). You both claim not to be baseball guys but you don't have the decency to tell us that you are fellow officials.

Well in light of all that, let me invite the both of you to kiss my large, white buttocks! the both of you are low down sneaks and you probably suck as officials in your own sports.

Finis

It is.

It shouldn't matter what sports I officiate if I ask a question. I didn't come in here howling about rotten umps or anything the coaches or nutjob fans do...so why expect the same respect that I would give you if you came in to one of the boards I post on?

I honestly figured (and still dont see) why it matters.... By saying I'm not a baseball guy, I figured that somebody would pick up that I do other sports.. I wasn't trying to trick or deceive anyone, so trying to justify the rudeness by saying I didnt identify myself doesnt make sense.

As for my capabilities at the sports I DO officiate, I always leave that to others to decide.

not sure why this has gotten so ugly fellas... no need for it.
