Ejected player making a play

Hi all,

i need some help finding the answer/rule reference for the following scenario. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We are talking official Rules here:
R2, 1 out
The batter rips a line-drive base hit to the center fielder. R2 heads home and is called safe on a close play. the catcher goes ballistic and is immediately ejected from the game. Meanwhile, the batter-runner is advancing to second. The catcher (who was just ejected) fires to second and teh batter-runner is called out trying to reach second base. Since the catcher was ejected before the last play, the umpires correctly nullify the out and return the batter-runner to 1st base.
True or False?

No I know that teh catcher cannot participate once ejected. I do not agree with the runner being sent back to 1st though. He would have been safe had it not been for the catcher throwing the ball. Pleas help me out with this one and a rule reference would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Players cannot be ejected during a live ball. The ball would remain live and any ejections enforced at the end of playing action.

I understand you saying that no player can be ejected during a live ball. But, is there any prohibition in OBR against the PU declaring Time so as to eject F2?

Tweet,

The out stands.

From OBR 9.01(d):

Quote:

If an umpire disqualifies a player while a play is in progress, the disqualification shall not take effect until no further action is possible in that play.

MTD,

Yes. From OBR 5.10(h):

Quote:

(h) Except in the cases stated in paragraphs (b) and (c)(1) of this rule, no umpire shall call “Time” while a play is in progress.

Yes - see rule 5.10. You can't call time while a play is in progress.

Correct. For FED, 3-3-1 PENALTY and 10-1-6.

Absolutely there is. You don't call time during a live ball - pretty basic tenet.
