"Uncaught" Third Strike.

Just a heads up for some of the umpires out there. It is not called a "Dropped" Third Strike but a "Uncaught" Third Strike. If the ball bounces before the F2 gets it in the glove then the batter becomes the baserunner. Unless 1B is occupied, except for two outs. I had a situation where a PU told me that it is not a "Dropped" Third Strike if the F2 catches it after it bounces. It must drop out of the glove. Please don't make this mistake.

=====
6.05 A batter is out when-

(b) A third strike is legally caught by the catcher; "Legally caught" means in the catcher's glove before the ball touches the ground. It is not legal if the ball lodges in his clothing or paraphernalia; or if it touches the umpire and is caught by the catcher on the rebound. If a foul tip first strikes the catcher's glove and then goes on through and is caught by both hands against his body or protector, before the ball touches the ground, it is a strike, and if third strike, batter is out. If smothered against his body or protector, it is a catch provided the ball struck the catcher's glove or hand first.

Thanks for the correction of the acronym.

Also, this was just a heads up because not eveyone knows the rule.

No, I do not do basketball. If you are from Maryland you might know me.

Coach, I hate to tell you this, but on this forum, yeah, everyone kinda does.

Just like a coach to use faulty logic in a debate. I was talking about the uncaught third strike rule, which has been bantied about in these online forums FOREVER.

Check the experience level on the people posting incorrectly about rules. That is why is said that we "kinda" do, allowing for newer officials who are just learning, and the ocassional rule change that someone might not have heard about.

For the most part, we veteran umpires debate "microcosms" of the rules, discect them and study them out. There is often spirted debate and even arguing (we are umpires, after all). The problems here usually lie with certain elements who don't like what is being said and lash out with personal attacks.

Edited: Got it.

I guarantee you that your local yokels that seem to be calling your games are NOT on this board. EVERYONE here knows this rule.
