Not a Word!

I am the PU on Tuesday...0-2 count on the batter. The pitcher throws when high and tight as the batter is hitting the ground to get out of the way the ball hits the bat and is foul tip into the catcher's glove. I give the foul tipped signal and call the batter out. No one says a word, not the player, coach, or a fan. Very strange.

did you get call right? they probably saw it the same as you did. I bet they would not have said a word if the batted ball was fair and runner was safe at first. good job seeing it and calling it correctly.

I guess you're lucky STB didn't come in from shallow right field to overrule you.

It usually warms up (50 degrees) sometime around May 15th! Our season is only 22 games long.

Did I get the call right? What are you saying?

jophyal Wed Apr 13, 2011 01:34pm

just sayin if they didn't say anything, they probably agreed. I was trying to as witty as others on this site. i guess if i have to explain it or draw pictures, i failed. note the rest of the post.

Warms up to 50? We were in the low 50's last night and I had to wear gloves, that isn't warm! :)

In live in Biloxi, MS.. if it hits 50's.. I have a jacket on and maybe a warm shirt underneath... man that is cold..

It's 35 here right now. I just loaded up the car for a plate job I have later today. By then we should be in the high 40s, if I'm lucky.

Growing up in Iowa, baseball was always a summer sport. We didn't even start pactice for hs ball until May.

41 (wind chill 30) today. I did pick a great day to turn in a 73 minute plate job, though.

DG Thu Apr 14, 2011 11:16pm

60 and above, short sleeves. 50-60, jacket on bases, long sleeve shirt behind plate, maybe a long sleeve silk layer underneath depending on low or high 50's. 40-50, under armour cold wear under long sleeve shirt behind plate, turtle cotton/poly under jacket on bases, light weight gloves on bases. Under 40, jacket behind plate or base with everything I can put on underneath. I have some gloves I can wear on plate if necessary (rarely) and I have worn backside wrap earmuffs on bases if cold enough.

I remember a DH a couple years ago in upper 30's with winds steady at 10 MPH and gusts higher. I had everything I own on for base job and only thing I dropped for plate was muffs and big thick gloves.

Rich Fri Apr 15, 2011 07:51am

Ended up working with a temperature of 41 and wind chill in the upper 20s. For the first time in years, I wore a jacket on the plate with cold gear underneath. Underarmour gloves. Partner put on the kitchen sink and still froze. Just a miserable day for baseball.

Bright side to the story is that I had a 73 minute plate, 10-0 walkoff hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.

welpe,if you do not like the weather in Texas, wait five minutes. it will change. have a warm and safe end of the season...

biggravy Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:38pm

in the last two weeks I've called a game in 35 degree weather and in 92 degree weather. wish it would just stay warm!
