I did not allow the appeal. The coach cannot initiate a live ball appeal. He told his players to throw the ball to 2B, and I ruled on it.

The other option (if action is relaxed) is to call time, then ask the coach to repeat himself.

Note "if action is relaxed."

Agreed. Action was relaxed, but the coach wandered onto the field unbidden and without requesting time, so I wasn't inclined to help him out.

I thought about dealing with his "wandering," but since he walked out, talked mainly to his players, didn't make an a$$ of himself, and left promptly after I denied the (eventually properly constituted) appeal, I decided it would have come across as antagonizing. Probably still should have reminded him that he can't come out without requesting "time." It would have been better had my partner handled that, but oh well.

Rufus,

Plus, it's a private school, and this kid got a 36 on his ACTs and realizes, should the defense successfully appeal his miss of 2B, the go-ahead run that just scored is coming off the board.

JM

Now that's funny ... but also very true.

Gotta love those private school kids ;)

Thanks
David
