I agree, it's always better to get into position and make your own call. But I'd rather have my partner call to me "Do you have a tag?" then I answer yes or no, then he makes the one and only call. That's better than 2 calls and a board meeting. :D

What if you have no information for him (you were watching a touch at 3rd) - what do you say?

You're really stretching the issue.... it depends on the situation as to whether I would even ask. If I know you are covering 3rd and I am dealing with something on the other side, I wouldn't bother asking you.

Be aware, this option of asking is superseded by getting your arse in position and getting the call right yourself. I can't remember the last time I asked for any help other than on a checked swing.
