test

A runner is always out when he
A.Initiates malicious contact
B.Runs more than three feet out of baseline
C.Is passed by a following runner
D.None of the above

In rule 8-4-2a it says the runner is out when he runs three feet out of baseline
In rule 8-4-2e it says runner is out for malicious contact

rails,

That's not exactly what 8-4-2a says.

Check to see if there are conditions attached to running out of the baseline.

Thank you

This is a poor question, IMO.

The correct answer, based on my scoring 100 on the exam, is not the same answer I'd give today.

A runner is not out if he commits MC after he scores. I think that's the intent of the question (based on the "correct" answer), but the NFHS defines a runner as someone who has not yet scored and "retired runner" includes a runner who has scored (see the definitions).

So, do you want to know what I think the correct answer is or would you like to know what the NFHS wants as an answer on the exam. Those, IMO, are two different things.

I think once he scores he is no longer a runner. He can be ejected for MC but he's not out because he's no longer a runner.

But a runner IS out if he initiates MC.

Maybe where you are, but not around here.

For Virginia, it was online at the NFHS site. Yes, the test period was about 25 days, and there was no time limit, but it was me, my rulebook, and my casebook.

Don't generalize. Generalizations are always wrong!

And, generally speaking, so are absolutes!

I missed this one also. A runner is always out when he: I answered A. Initiates malicious contact. My reasoning, same as Rich's, was a runner is no longer a runner after he has scored.
