Mechanics Query

Why are 1B umpires standing well into foul ground with a runner being held on first base? I know you can see a pickoff better, but it takes you out of the loop for a fair/foul shot over the bag.
I'm seeing umpires do this in 3-man games locally, and I THINK it's because they see the MLB guys do it (even though they're 4-man or 6-man crews).

Anyone?

You will see a fair amount of MLB guys get a greater angle by being more in foul territory. You will also see that when the pitcher commits to home, they, not all but most, will get back on the line. This is often not seen by the camera.

I'm not sure I agree with that premise.

I thought of this angle on my own a few years ago and asked our state clinician about it and they shied me away from it due to the fact that according to them, it increases your chance of getting hit by a throw over to 1B by F1. It wasn't the time to debate since they were also my evaluators for a pretty high level game...so I just did as I was told.
