Quick Ejection?

Votto ejected for arguing strikes | reds.com: News

This seems like a REALLY quick ejection to me. What do you guys think?

mbyron Sun Aug 15, 2010 08:35pm

Are you serious? Votto started whining when the pitch was called, and when he came back to the plate DJ told him to knock it off. You can see DJ tell Baker he warned Votto twice. Just another MLB punk trying to intimidate a newer MLB umpire.

Dusty seems to understand:

"I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again," Baker said. "I hope the word doesn't get around. That was a quick hook, but perhaps Joey said some things that he possibly shouldn't have said."

I loved listening to the announcer say "That was a bad pitch to begin with..." just as the FOX pitch track is showing that the pitch was in the strike zone.

Apparently Votto was yapping at Reyburn from the on-deck circle about a pitch in the PREVIOUS at bat.

So he did tell him twice to knock it off. In two consecutive at bats.

Man those announcers need to be EJECTED!

Welpe Sun Aug 15, 2010 09:53pm

Wow those announcers have never seen an ejection like that before? Somehow I highly doubt that.

"Quick" has nothing to do with it if the magic words are spoken.

Yeah you can see Reyburn pointing toward the on-deck circle when Votto is throwing a fit after he gets ran.

This isn't Votto's first time getting dumped for arguing balls and strikes during an at-bat. He's a rat extraordinaire.

Edit: The sheer stupidity on mlb.com in the comment section for that video is unbelievable. "The umpires are showing the players up", "The umpires want attention", "The players have the right to question calls". And fans wonder why umpires think they're idiots.

Nice.

If I were the Reds I was fine and or suspend Votto...I don't want my best player and one of the best hitters in the NL getting dumped on the first pitch he sees in a game. It is one pitch (and a strike according to the reply) and you are going to put you team at a disadvantage that early...what a DOPE!

Sounds like a head rat defending a little rat...."possibly perhaps"....;)

I've seen that pitch (interpreted from the centerfield camera) called a strike several times this season in MLB. I've also seen it called a ball. As for a quick dump, we don't know what was said. Obviously the magic words will get you dumped whether it's after 5 minutes or 5 seconds.

The term "You can't quote silence" applies to players and coaches as well as the officials. I have yet to see someone simply ejected for say absolutely nothing. He ran his mouth and he got dumped. The time frame is irrelevant.

Peace
