USSSA Rules

Is the basis for USSSA rules OBR or FED (or, I suppose, NCAA, but that seems unlikely)?

I've skimmed the rules on-line and see all the exceptions and clariifications, but I don't see any statement akin to "...follow xxx rules, except as listed below"

Thanks

OBR. Years ago, the USSSA used to reference their rule book as "Official Baseball Rules as Published by 'The Sporting News'" with a small supplemental rule book with safety and courtesy runner modifications and rules for younger players. Its just been within the last few years that USSSA has published a complete rule book, but it is still based upon OBR with the same modifications.

bob,

From the Foreword of the 2009 USSSA rule book:

Quote:

The USSSA Baseball National Committee has incorporated the Official Rules of Baseball as published by Major League Baseball on MLB.com including the Comments sections directly into the Official Baseball National By-laws & Rules at the appropriate places. ...
and

Quote:

...The Official Rules of Baseball as published by Major League Baseball on MLB.com shall govern any item not specifically covered herein.

Thanks.

I glanced at the foreword, but apparently I should have read it. ;)

Silly me to think the section titles "Playing Rules" would cover, well, the playing rules.

What I find interesting is that in addition to OBR, USSSA specifies National League yet they have re-entry and a DH which the National League does NOT use.

It's amazing that so many people think the American League and National League have different rules. They don't.

(pause for effect)

The DH is in the book for both. It is optional. The NL opts to not use it.

I've always (since the DH started) wondered what would happen if a NL manager tried to use a DH in a game.

There aren't even separate offices or officers any more for the NL and AL. I'm not sure if they're even separate entites in any form.
