Video review
 
What is the present status on video review? I believe it's used for reviewing questionable home runs. Usually, the umpire calls "Home Run!" or "Foul!". In both cases, the ball becomes dead. What if the video reveals that the fair ball actually remained "in play", and never left the park? Where would you place the runners? Can a call of "dead ball" be reversed?

If it never left the park and was in play it would be bouncing/rolling around the field somewhere - no video required. In that case after a review it could become foul, a HR, or a double - all with predetermined outcomes.

If it didn't leave but stuck somewhere it would be dead and a two base award.

If the ball hits NEAR the top of the wall and landed in play, and the umpire calls "Home run!". The video review shows that it actually hit below the top of the wall.

Or if the wall continues vertically above the marked "home run line", and the video shows the ball hit below the line.

There are many cases where a home run ball returns into the playing field after striking an object beyond the home run boundary.

Also... If a fly ball hits a marked home run boundary line, is it a home run?

MLB has ALREADY addressed this issue in the REVISED ruling for umpires which allows them to place runners where in their judgement they would have achieved.

It's NOT YET in the publsihed rule books but hopefully it should be there this coming year.

9.02(c) has been changed in my book (published by Triumph). (As have the other changes for this year.)
