Official Scorekeeper
Looking for comments on how do deal with the following situation.
After a game, a person comes up to the umpires and introduces herself as "the official scorekeeper". Then proceeds to tell us that there were several instances when the plate umpires strike count was different then hers and she was wondering what the procedure was for her to get us to change our count. I tried explaining that the plate umpire has the final decision with regards to the count but may refer to the official scorekeeper if there is some confusion, however, she was insisting that because she was the official scorekeeper, her count was the correct one. I don't know about anyone else, but if I hear someone from the crowd asking for time, I don't even turn around. Am I wrong? |
Self-important score keeper. Tell her that if there is a question the PU will consult her. Otherwise she should keep track of the game and remain quiet. She has no responsibility to correct what happens on the field.

Speaking FED, try part of 10-2-1:
The umpire in chief shall...call and count balls and strikes. Keeping an official balls & strikes count is not listed as one of the scorekeepers duties listed in Rule 9. I'm sure there is a similar rule in OBR. |

She's wrong. Ignore her. If she persists, walk away. |

The scorer shall not make any decision conflicting with the Official Playing Rules, or with an umpire's decision. OBR Rule 9.04(a): The umpire-in-chief shall stand behind the catcher. (He usually is called the plate umpire.) His duties shall be to: (2) Call and count balls and strikes. |

As a side note, I have 3 football ejections EVER. 2 were the same 6-year old kid, ejected for beating the hell out of an opposing player. The other was a scorekeeper. |
