Old style West Vest on ebay

Great looking "old school" original West Vest on eBay. This is the real deal West Vest and not the current Wilson model. This is the one 'ol Joe designed. It's not mine but if I didn't have a Douglas West Vest I'd be all over it!

Ebay item #260444506044

At the rate the main two bidders are going, it will be over priced by Tuesday.

What's overpriced? If it's an item that is highly desirable due to it's quality and rarity the term overpriced is in the eye of the bidder. I have seen these go for over $200 on ebay. I am sure the buyers feel it's money well spent to own the original. I wouldn't trade my Douglas WV for 10 Wilson copies.

More than market price. Here's a site that sells them for $125. You'd have to be thick to pay $200.

MByron...please show me on this site where the Original style WV with adjustable breast plate is available? I looked real hard and could only find the crappy Wilson copy.

The crappy Wilson copy, as you put it, is the same one being sold on ebay. It's the 3rd one down, between the Platinum and the Charcoal colored one. They are not selling a Douglas West Vest on ebay.

The only difference is that the Wilson logo is on the adjustable plate instead of the old WV logo, which only makes sense since Wilson owns the rights now.

So many were made and are in current circulation that the term "rarity" does not apply. Anyone who is a true collector knows this. Those fooled by the WV logo may not. Any one who bids over $130 for this is either ill-informed or overly emotional.

I also have a Douglas "West Vest". As attached to it as I am emotionally, I know it doesn't protect as well as later models and use as a back up only.

You can get this protector for $102.49 at this place:Wilson Baseball West Vest Pro Chest Protector - Baseball Equipment and Gear

That ebay listing says more than it needs to say, including (Apostrophe Police, look away from the screen): "These CP's are superior to the newer generation West Vest's."

Why is something that's the middle-of-the-line model superior to the top-of-the-line model?

It's worth about $90.00 brand new. So it's already overpriced at $81.00 used.

Yeah I guess I don't see how the older WVs are superior to the Gold and Platinum made now. Going off of looks, they don't appear to protect as well. Maybe I'm missing something.

WILSON WEST VEST MAJOR LEAGUE UMPIRE CHEST PROTECTOR NR - eBay (item 200362803214 end time Jul-20-09 18:45:28 PDT)

I guess this is an old Platinum or something? It's already at $31 with five bids and 5+ days to go. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for that protector, but it will go for much higher.

Looks like it's ready for the trash can!

Looks like an old basic Wilson Charcoal protector. A new one costs between $90 - $105. If the one on eBay sells for $50 or more, it only provides (once again) that P.T. Barnum was correct.

You're right, it is one of the "MLU" or "Charcoal" protectors. You can get them for as low as $80 on some websites.
