Doug Eddings Throat Guard?

Twins @ Brewers (6/23)

Is he wearing that properly? It seems a bit high...either that or I'm wearing mine wrong? :)

SanDiegoSteve Tue Jun 23, 2009 09:08pm

Crap, I thought there was a new throat guard on the market.:(

Can you post a link?

I'm sure he has a reason for it. One would think that if a ball stuck the protector that low, it would really act like a lever, and snap back against your noggin.

I'd rather have mine dangling behind the lower rung. (insert joke here)

umpjim Tue Jun 23, 2009 09:53pm

His mask did not have a "Wilson" logo so he added the "dangler" which is not dangling. Otherwise, he should have found a welder.

kylejt Tue Jun 23, 2009 09:59pm

That looks like the old +POS, fat tubed, aluminum frame, with Wilson pads.

DG Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:08pm

Nothing said about him wearing sunglasses. I have done it in certain conditions so don't have a problem, but have heard others who say never...

umpjim Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:16pm

Sunglasses make it look like you don't need a prescription. I just wear the goggle eyes.

zm1283 Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:19pm

I know guys who fasten their throat guards up that high. They don't dangle around that way.

I wear sunglasses on really sunny days. If I don't I end up squinting really bad, which I can't stand.

Someone will, just wait.

Others will object to his combo hat.

Still others won't like the sunshade in his mask.

A few may take excepting to him saluting Hitler, but surprisingly less than those who object to his sunglasses.

umpjim Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:16pm

I didn't notice the combo hat, not that it matters, but if you do wear the 8 stitch I can't see what a sunshade will do for you.

If I need sunglasses I wear sunglasses. If someone tells me I can't, I go away and don't work. Life's too short to be told to squint.

It keeps the sun off the bill of your lid. Sort of like the contraption you put on the dash of your car to deflect the sun off the windshield. That works, doesn't it?

It works, but you still can't drive with the sunscreen in place.

Don't bet on that, especially in CA.! :D

I am wondering why he need both the sunshade and and sunglasses? It not one enough?

Hock9 Wed Jun 24, 2009 08:49am

I think you may be over-looking the "cool factor" (at least some folks think the sunshade looks cool, even though while wearing a hat it's of limited value). As for putting the dangler on a bit high, I think Bob Davidson may be another one.

The mask itself appears to be a standard Wilson A3009.

The sunshade on the mask we've always laughed at, to be honest. The line I always use -- must be trying to keep the sun off his hat.

I only wear sunglasses on the plate when the sun's right in my face. I only *don't* wear them on the bases at night or when it's completely overcast with no chance of sun. I haven't embraced the yellow lenses yet.

But being told I couldn't wear them? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

I agree with you about the sun visor. Maybe he doesn't want the brim fade.

I've never worn sunglasses while behind the plate but I don't think it's a big deal for those that do.

For players the sunglasses have become a fashion statement. I've always been amazed at players who make sure they're on their hat during night games.

Don't be, as they're getting paid to do so. I had an Oakley sponsorship years ago, and any time I was on a bike, wearing my uniform or representing my team, I was to wear my Oakleys. On my hat/helmet/head or on the front of my jersey. It was part of the agreement.

The sun visor will help him with catch/no catch on a third strike. :D

Look like the old Wilson gray dyna lite frame they made for a few years a while back.
