BOO - Force out

No outs, R1, Improper batter Able hits into a 6-4 force out. The defense appeals properly. Ruling: R1 is out (on the play), and the proper batter is out. Able is removed from the base. Two outs....I thought that R1 returns to 1st Base, Able is removed, One out. Is R1 out because of the play? Thanks!

R1 returns to 1B. Nothing can be maintained by the illegal hitter if appealed. Defense should have kept quiet. They lose an out.

Depends on the rules code.

Under FED, outs made on the play stand. Under OBR and NCAA, they don't.

FED 7-1-1: Any outs made on the play stand. R1 out on the 6-4.

Interesting. What is Fed's reason for this? To hit the one who screwed up the most?

The defense did work to get the out, even when the offense was "cheating." No reason to make the defense work for it again.

I can understand that. But, the idea of an illegally batted ball is to not keep the results b/c the ball was batted illegally.

I am not arguing. I am just wondering why illegally batted ball results get kept and others don't like batting a ball with one foot out of the box.

I see where you are coming from, but I feel that these 2 situations (BOO & 1-foot out) have more differences than similarities. My feeling is that the 1-foot out is giving the offense a distinct physical advantage (batter is "false starting" to 1B) rather than BOO that seems more like a "mental" (for lack of a better term at this point) advantage. Just like you, not arguing just trying to wrap my mind around it better.

Fed's reason? Same reason your Momma gave for you not going to that party..."Because I said so." Do they need a better reason than that. It's Fed and Fed is Fed. They gotta be different.
