Armbrister lives (Phils/Mets)
Watching the Phils/Mets. Met batter bunts in front of the plate. Both the Met and the Phillies catcher move as they should.
Phillies' catcher reaches for the ball and essentially bats it right into the batter-runner. It's possible without Ruiz hitting it first that the BR would've run right into his own bunt. Mets' announcers think the Mets got a break, but this Phillies fan thinks it was a pretty good call. |
So I'm confused...what was the call? Illegal batting? ;)
|
Given what Rich said about the likely view of Mets fans, I'd have to guess that the call was "play on" after the BR kicked the ball away from F2.
|
The call was "tangle/untangle" - nothing. Good call.

What made this interesting, though, was that Ruiz (the Phillies catcher) tried to play the ball around/through the BR and actually batted the ball right into him just before (it appeared) the BR would've run into the ball himself, which would've been a clear interference call.
Ruiz (F2) completed the play at first. The only difference interference would've made was that R1 and R2 advanced on the bunt and they would've returned. Personally, I thought it was a great call even though it went against the WFC (and I'm a huge fan). |
