Scoring Question

Hey folks. I am the score keeper for my sons 9U All-Star team and ran into these two situations during our championship game yesterday. How would both of these be scored in the scorebook?

- Batter hits the ball to the fence and gets to 3rd. Other coach appeals that he missed 2nd. Ump calls him out.

- Batter steps out of the box when he hits the ball.

The second situation was interesting in that the ump let the play continue until the batter got to 2nd and a run had scored. He then called him out for stepping out. Neither situation hurt us as we won 14-2 but I would like to do it correctly.

Thanks for any help!

Well, most of the umpires here don't like scoring questions, because it's out of our scope of really caring much about the subject. But, I will give it a try.

1. Credit batter with a single and score the putout to F4.

2. If the batter had one or both feet completely outside the lines of the box when he made contact with a fair batted ball, the umpire should immediately call Time and not wait until the play is over. The batter-runner is out for interference and the putout goes to F2. All runners return to the bases where they were at the Time of The Pitch.

I think that's right.:)

Thanks very much. I wasn't sure if this was the right place to ask but thought I would give it a shot. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Your first point is right on.

Foul Ball Also

Also, if batter hits ball foul while he steps completely out of the box, he is out as well.

In the heat of the play (especially with an apparent multi-base hit), who pays attention to the umpire? It wouldn't surprise me at all if he really had called this right away but got drowned out by the cheering coaches, players, and parents. ;)
