Coach Ejection - clarification
 

Coach ejected.

1) Next game is suspended due to rain. Coach was not present at this game due to rule (4.07). Can coach return for completion of this game which will be front end of double header or does suspension carryover and only allow coach to attend second game?

2) 4.07 also states, "Any manager, coach or player ejected from a game is suspended for his or her team's next physically played game and may not be in attendance at the game site from which they were suspended."

Next physically played game is obvious (to me). What is meant by game site? Does this infer if the game was home they could be in attendance at the next away game, just not at the next home game? That wouldn't make sense would it?

Typically that's an administrative thing. How would the next umpires even know about it? In our area, I'd have no way of knowing...the state association/AD should handle that...are you talking high school/FED ball?

FED Rules but Rec League (pretty closely monitored).

The league administration should take care of managing these types of things, not the umpires. Might work differently in other areas.

The follow up actions from an ejection, beyond the immediate, are not in the umpire realm. In FED, the state association and the school administration are responsible for suspensions, remedial actions, fines, etc.

If I am umpiring a contest and anyone raises the issue of whether the opposing coach / player shouldn't be there, has been suspended, isn't eligible for any other reason, I refer them to the State Association. Should an "ineligible" coach / player take part in the game, corrective action is in the hands of the association. As an umpire, I don't have the information needed to deal with these type issues, AND don't want to have it. I have more than enough to do with the game at hand.

The only time we care is the 2nd game of a DH. We KNOW who we ejected in game 1 can't play / coach in game 2. Otherwise the advice above is the way to go.

What Socalblue1 said is absolutely right. Over the years, I have had to deal with that situation. Interestingly, two or three of those situations required a call to the state association before the second game was started so that the ejected coach could hear it from someone besides "that stupid umpire". Especially when the the Varsity assistant was ejected and he/she is the JV head coach (second game), and thinks the suspension is only at the Varsity assistant level.

New Mexico has just this past year changed (read increased) the consequences for player / coach ejections to include completing an on-line course, a money fine, and increased penalties for cumulative ejections, including other sports. For example, one ejection in football, one ejection in basketball, and one ejection in baseball: the association has the option of suspending the offender for the rest of the season rather than just one game. New Mexico Activities Association is trying to take Victory with Honor and Character Counts seriously. Regardless of that, it continues to amaze me how many players / coaches seem to take being ejected lightly and as "part of the game".

1) If he was suspended for a game and that game is suspended then it is not over till it's over.

2) Stupid rule. He should be suspended from next game, wherever it is. The rule does not infer, it states plainly "from which they were suspended".

Local league rules I assume?
