Umpire Shirts (like I would ask about another kind)
I am a larger fellow (read fat :() and I am looking to get some new shirts for this year. I tend to get very warm (more than most, wonder why that is) and was wondering which shirts seem to be the most breathable?
I have some Honigs currently, but they seem to be a bit heavier and the "mesh" a bit smaller than some. I have been checking and I was thinking about the Dalco shirts from Ump-Attire. Any comments, concerns, hikus? |

Give ump-attire a try. the Dalco are pretty nice.

For me the Dalco shirts tend to run a little large, so you might try them out.

Whatever you do, dont get ANY shirt that is as ugly as this Official's Choice "new" red shirt.

May I also suggest that you look into UnderArmour tops and full length bottoms (with cup pocket for the plate). I am on the larger side also and it's the undergarments that really keep you cool. |

It would be a good ball bag to wear while working the bases! :-) That way you can tell the difference between the PU's ball bag and the base ump's ball bag

Here are a few others: Gerry Davis (Gerry Davis Sports: An umpire and referee equipment store featuring quality umpire equipment, apparel, education and clinics by professional umpire, Gerry Davis) The Referee's Call (Referee Equipment | Umpire Equipment) Lester Upstate Sports (Umpire equipment sports referee officiating gear and clothing accessories) Torch's Referee & Umpire Supplies (referee, umpire, supplies, equipment, basketball, football, baseball, shirts, shoes, accessories, athletic, price, quality, face masks, whistles, officials, sports) [new, better website] Hope this helps. |
It did help, I had totally forgot about GD stuff.

Completely ignore the Gerry Davis Signature Shirts by Cliff Keen. They are everything you don't want: They run small; they don't breathe; the fabric doesn't give. I own many brands and colors and these are the absolute worst--even worse than the first-generation Official's Choice. And everything at Gerry Davis is as high-priced as Honig's--another reason to steer clear.
Purchase Official's Supplies is definitely another outstanding outfit to add to the general list of umpire supply sites. Unimpressive web site, but very professional guys. But the shirt that you described is basically the Dalco--if you want a quality loose-fitting, professional-looking, breathable mesh--or Official's Choice, if you want poorly-made rookie gear from a company that's becoming the laughingstock of the industry ... one umpire at a time. Dalco is available at Ump-attire.com and Between the Lines. You can't go wrong with either of those sites, whose owners are as personal and professional as the P.O.S. guys. (But P.O.S. is phasing out Dalco. They feature Smitty's, which, after you get over the name, is the most comfortable, best-fitting and best value of the medium-weight closed mesh, which is not what you're after.) Go to Jim Kirk at Ump-attire.com and try the Dalco. |
