New CP - Breaking in? Wilson Plat.
 

Tried on my new Wilson CP Platinum last night. First Hard Shell protector. Once I got it adjusted to fit snug I noticed that the side pads near the underarms were digging in and every time I raised my arm or arms the pad rubbed and it also lifted the CP upwards. Is this normal for this type of CP. Some have mentioned in this forum that it takes awhile to break in a hard shell protector. Will the pads soften up or should I cut the pads back? Overall it feels stiff and akward. I am 5"10 175 pounds. The CP is the 13.5" size. Thanks in advance for you input.

Don't cut it!!! Give it a chance. Mine took several games and multiple adjustments before it was comfortable.

A good way to break it in is to follow Happy Gilmore's lead. Pop a quarter in the batting cage and take a few shots.


It took me a few games to get it just right, then I tape all of my straps so that they don't move. Haven't adjusted it since then.

A chest protector lifting upward is not necessarily a bad thing. Helps to protect the collar bone. Just give it some time. Make sure you check your adjustments prior to every game. It will take a few games before it will conform to your body.

Appreciate everyone's input and I have some games this weekend and I will work thru it and give it a chance. It is lightweight and I wore around the house for an hour last night and my teenager and wife wanted to know if I was going to bed with it. Not! Thanks! All the best!
